ABOUT ABOUT

Please join the Young Friends of the Preservation Alliance (YFPA) as we host Which Jawn Matters? Networking for Nominations, a follow up to 2016's This Jawn Matters 101: How to Nominate a Building to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.

Nominating a building for listing on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places provides one of the greatest levels of protection that we can office to our community's hertiage resources. Last year, we reviewed how anyone can nominate a building to the local register and guided particpates toward the next step, beyond a photograph and a hashtag, to concrete and tangible action to protect the buildings they love. But what next? This event pushes further into the nomination process by bringing together a panel of young professionals who have themselves submitted nominations and have worked to add historic resources to the Philadlephia Register. They will share their successes and challenges to inform and inspire other community members to nominate buildings.

Panelists for Which Jawn Matters include local preservation rock stars Oscar Beisert, Amy Lambert, Arielle Harris, Benjamin Leech, and Starr Herr-Cardillo. Attendees should come prepared with questions for the panelists and details on buildings they care about so that our tean can provide advice on nominations. To keep the momentum flowing, we will also organize follow-up activities and/or events to answer questions and complete nomination forms, and encourage attendees to connect with the panelists and YFPA Steering Committee members throughout the nomination process.

Our goal by 2018 is to provide as much support and guidance to Philadelphians as they research, write, and submit their own nominations to save the places that make their communities great.
