ABOUT ABOUT

Philadelphia is the highest, per capita, mass incarcerator out of the 10 major metropolitan cities in the United States. This event aims to humanize the experiences of millennials before, during, and after repaying their debt to society. Through a live theatre performance, visual art exhibition, and post-show panel discussion, we will capture and tell stories of those re-entering society. By using theatre and art as tools for advocacy, we seek to highlight commonalities rather than differences within the diverse communities of Philadelphia.

By sharing the stories of coming home to family, trying to find a job, and confronting public embarrassment and stigma, this event will serve as a compassionate vehicle for affecting positive social change and fighting the stigma of reentry that plagues so many Philadelphians who return home following incarceration.

This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:00pm and Mayor Jim Kenney will provide opening remarks at 5:30. The event will conclude by 8pm. Through our collaboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, all attendees will have an opportunitiy to visit the Philadelphia Assembled exhibition during the event. This event is curated by the Philadelphia Millennial Advisory Committee.
