Hear from Moder Patshala's founders and volunteers on the Bangladeshi and other immigrant/refugee communities in the region. Learn more about how to best serve these families and hear stories of their own journeys to America.
Tour and check out some of the services offered to the community by Moder Patshala in their student and adult programs such as a fully volunteer-led afterschool program, ESL courses taught by graduate students from UPenn's TESOL program, technology literacy classes, and leadership mentoring for young students.
Learn how YOU can get more involved and help support vulnerable marginalized communities.
"Pop Up" Community Visit Goals:
- Expose young professionals/leaders to the importance of the hard work of community-based organizations first-hand.
- Highlight the courageous history of the residents in the area as well as the people that work hard in supporting them.
- Increase awareness of the issues that impact these people (ex. urban renewal on low-rent housing and small businesses, the roles played by corporations and government agencies, etc.).

Established in 2010, the Asian Mosaic Fund Giving Circle of Greater Philadelphia is a diverse group of multigenerational donors committed to advancing the well-being of the Greater Philadelphia Asian and Asian American community. We envision a flourishing Asian and Asian American community made up of safe, thriving, and diverse sectors, strengthened by dynamic leadership that empowers the Asian and Asian American community to fully participate in all levels of society. Moder Patshala is a non-profit community-based after-school education organization. It was established in 2004 by Ali Zaker and his wife Najneen Kabita’s in their family home with the assistance of Mohammed Jahangir Alam Khan. In Bengali, “Moder Patshala” means “our school” or "our learning house.” Our mission is to assist recently arrived Bangladeshi-American and other immigrant students and their families to adjusting to their new environment and fulfilling their American dream by achieving a proper education. Our mission is also to assist the children of Bangladeshi-American parents who may be struggling academically. We hope to build a stronger future for the community by supporting the balanced upbringing of our children. By assisting and educating parents and children, we help them to become full, valuable, and responsible citizens of this country.
